IN-CHARACTER:
Character name: Alex Fierro
Character journal:
shiftinglikeclay
Series name: Magnus Chase Trilogy
Canon notes: After returning to the Hotel Valhalla after the events in Ship of the Dead but before helping found the Chase Place with Magnus.
Species: Human/Demigod/Einherjar
Age: 16
Arrival Condition: Technically dead, but the Einherjar thing means he's essentially alive again.
History: Wiki link
Personality: At first meeting, Alex is standoffish, suspicious, and sarcastic. Getting other people to like her is clearly not a priority for her. Either people accept her exactly as she is, or not and she'd rather know right up front than waste time with people who're just going to end up rejecting her later. Even when she does accept someone as a friend she prefers to hold herself at some distance, almost expecting that they'll eventually let her down.
And this is around people he considers his peers. He trusts people in authority, especially older people in authority even less. He was homeless on the streets of Boston for two years after his father and stepmother kicked him out, and being homeless doesn't exactly give a person much respect for cops and governmental officials and the like. Even the Norse gods are given little respect. When you've grown up with Loki constantly poking into your life and trying to ruin things, it's hard to have much respect even for gods.
All that said though, Alex can be a very good and loyal friend, once she does respect someone. It's always going to be the sort of friendship made up of teasing and jokes, and it takes a very long time for her to actually trust even the people she calls friends, but she will respect them, and would never betray them. And even with people she doesn't like, she would never tease or question someone's personal identity.
A lot of Alex's defensiveness comes from having grown up genderqueer in a time and place that is only starting to accept that that is even a thing. While his father blamed Loki for Alex's gender non-conformity, Alex doesn't care why he is the way he is, he just wants people to respect it. And if they can't respect it, they need to leave him alone.
Stopping Ragnarok with Magnus and the rest of Hall 19 has given Alex a taste of what working with a group can be like, and though she'd never admit it, it has felt good to be a part of something bigger than just herself. Even if she's not sure where her relationship with Magnus is going or what exactly she wants that relationship to be, she's come to enjoy the ability to rely on others. She still has a lot to learn on that front however.
Abilities: Einherjar
Technically, Alex is dead, but because he died valorously in battle, he got to go to Valhalla and become one of the Enherji, Odin's chosen warriors who will fight and die on the side of the gods when Ragnarok comes. While in the Hotel Valhalla, Alex can die and be resurrected endlessly, but outside of it if he dies, he's dead for good. No more second chances. Being an Enherji does give him enhanced strength, agility and endurance, though only slightly above that of a human in peak condition.
Child of Loki
Alex's mother was the Norse god Loki, and from her Alex inherited the ability to shapeshift into any natural animal. This does include the ability to change into other people, but that only happens once in canon and seems to require knowing the other person very well - for ease of play, I'm planning on ditching the 'into other people' shifting.
Fear the Garrote
Alex has a magical garrote made from the hair of the goddess Sif. It is razor sharp and when wielded like a whip can extend out in length to about seven feet to strike before returning to its normal size. Alex usually wears it as a belt.
Pottery Barn
In Ship of the Dead Alex was able to create and animate a clay golem to fight for her. It took all day, and the help of two of her friends and the resources of a decent sized pottery studio to create it. I don't see this coming up in game at all or at least not without running it by the mods first
